something not completely different

            http://jazz-beard.com

A site that I seem to be updating more regularly than any other I've set out to do. Now there's a first.
Still lots to put up of course, but it will serve as my folio/blog and general place for things from now on...

It Hugs Back - music video

Over a year has gone by and I thought I'd lost these photo's after the death of a computer; for a freezing cold production set in the old Book Barn in Paintworks, Bristol. An amazing place, disused for a few years with mountainous book piles it looked post-apocalyptic. We worked for I think 5 days averaging possibly 18 hours or more a day towards the end. We were so careful at the beginning when placing the blocks, balancing them for the smoothest motion... by the time we took the last shot (which I think is the 3rd in the video) we were exhausted; I think we booted some into place. It was practically a 24 hour straight run with temperatures hanging at around -1 degrees. Martin Davies' direction came down to almost incoherent sentences but he'd got us working so well together it didn't matter.

A brilliant time was had, countless cheese and pickle sandwiches and cups of tea were consumed. Even a first edition marvel comic was found.

Here's a link to the video "Now + Again";
and a few photo's from the production:

Train friend

If I'm honest I'm reaching slightly at calling him "friend" as he was must too embroiled in frantic attempts to reach scraps at the bottom of his Walker's crisps packet to talk freely. -Probably a lucky break for me as this would have raised burning issues such as, "how do I uninvite him for butties and squash at my house" and "I hope that smell doesn't latch onto my pants".
Anyway I think I captured his post-Walker's blues. "The Potato Descent". There's probably more layers I should add for definition and make it look good, but seeing as I've already promised abject failures (and much like my last landlord with his half-finished hairplugs); I'd only be cheating myself.

Digital Finger Painting

Found a link from here about a little package available for the iTouch called Brushes. It's got a surprising amount of control and usability for such a simple program and I had my first go yesterday lunchtime. Just have to get used to using my fat digits instead of a pencil.

It probably looked like I was playing quake rather than the high art that was going down.

Need to do some proper colour studies and more experimenting - I will post all my abject failures up here of course!

Starting with this one.

Dot-to-Dot Festival, Bristol.

Festivals really are just a socially acceptable format to drink vast amounts in the daytime. Considering it started at 2pm-ish going on into the early hours it's a wonder I have anything to put up here...
That said band-wise anyone looking for new musicola should look up Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit, and maybe if you're so inclined
Noah and the Whale too while you're at it.

Look at this too! Only a week since my last upload, -the question on everyone's lips is, how long can I keep this level of blog activity?

The question on my lips at least...

Skunk Fu!

COLOUR! Well blow me down.
This little lot are some of the backgrounds I did whilst working at the Saloon.
The blue one was done in Flash from a layout by the lofty gent Gord McBride. The rest are photoshop jobbies for an episode with an alternative style to the rest of the series (praise be to Jesse!). -Said episode will air in January 2008.

The first 26 episodes of Skunk Fu! are currently airing weekdays at 3.45/3.50 on BBC1 (began Monday 9th July 2007) plus Saturdays at 5pm on CBBC (began Saturday 14th July 2007).

Life studies

We were lucky to have a decent model to draw in deepest darkest Ireland - Thanks again to Anna for the great poses!

Annecy observationals.

Annecy, it seemed hotter than ever and that hill to the campsite has been made steeper I swear.
Met lots of interesting people, including the local drunks who weren't the charming sort.

The festival was very inspirational as always, and here's just a couple of drawings for now. More left-handed drawing with simultaneous inkwash goings-on. I seem to be drawing with my left hand more frequently of late.
